Didactics Department

The Laboratory of Didactics is one of the leading laboratories of the Institute of Pedagogy which existed since its foundation date under the Department of Social Upbringing; it was a didactics sector which was chaired by O. H. Dyakov, the Professor. In this period, a special attention was paid at the development of the issues of the education content, new forms and methods of teaching were searched for, namely, the team-laboratory method, the project method, and the research method. A turning-point in the teaching theory development of 20-s-30-s was an attempt to explain and to improve the experimental research method in pedagogy. A pedagogical experiment is equally used in practice of didactic researches in 30-s-40-s when the didactics sector became a sub-section of the Department of Pedagogy. This period is characterized by the successful formulation in the discovery of the educative process nature; a reflexive approach in pedagogy was being worked out (V. I. Pomahaiba, Ya. F. Chepiha, H. I. Savyts’ka, P. R. Chamata).

The further development of the didactic researches is linked to S. Kh. Chavdarov, an outstanding scientist-pedagogue, who had been chairing the Department of Pedagogy from 1938 till 1941; under his management, such general didactics issues as the principles and methods of teaching had been being worked out. His book L. V. Shchepkin Lypetska School became very popular; under his management, the textbook Pedagogy (1940) which became the first textbook in the Ukrainian language was published. In the post-war period, having chaired the Institute of Pedagogy, S. Kh. Chavdarov worked hard on the didactics problems; in 1949, his book The Principles of Soviet Didactics was published.

A supportive environment for the theory of teaching development appeared after the foundation of a separate Department of Didactics in the Institute (1961). It was chaired by V. I. Pomahaiba, a famous scientist. Under his management, the Department had been working on the development of the problems of the definition of the essence, laws, and patterns of the educative process, the education principles were made more specific.

From 70-s till nowadays, the Laboratory of Didactics was chaired by V. O. Onishchuk, V. F. Palamarchuk, Yu. I. Malovanyi, L. L. Momot, S. P. Bondar, S. Ye. Trubacheva, V. I. Kyzenko. In the recent years, the Laboratory was chaired by H. O. Vaskivska.

The research branches of the Laboratory of Didactics:

· 20-s-30-s of the XX century – the problems of a new school reorganization were worked out, the experimental research method in pedagogy was improved.

30-s-40-s of the XX century the issues of education content were worked out (integrated education programs), reflexive approach, research and team-laboratory education methods.

50-s-60-s of the XX century the essence of the educative process, the patterns, principles, and laws of teaching were studied.

70-s-80-s of the XX century the problems of the education content, organization forms and teaching methods were investigated.

1993-2000 the problems of the humanization of the studying process, the didactic basis of the educative process at the school of 12 years of studying were worked out.

2000-2005 the problems of teaching methods, the reform of the education content of the secondary comprehensive school of 12 years of studying, modern pedagogical technologies were investigated.

2006-2008 the didactic basis of the formation and the realization of the specialized studying was worked out.

2009-2011 the problems of the didactic basis of the studying differentiation in the primary school were studied.

Since 2012, a research of the topic The Fundamentals of the Education Content at High School under the Conditions of the Specialized Studying was started.

Onishchuk, V. F. Palamarchuk, V. I. Pomahayba, V. Ye. Rymarenko, O. M. Topuzov, L. V. Chashko, L. V. Shelestova, O. H. Yaroshenko and others worked in the Laboratory in different periods of time.

Among the latest scientific initiatives of the Laboratory of Didactics is the foundation of the research works collection Didactics: Theory and Practice (2012).
