The experimental check and the implementation of the model of the rural school development


Under the conditions of modernization of the Ukrainian educational system as well as the transmission to the new structures and the content of education and upbringing, the problem of the innovative development of a rural educational institution, the intensive searches of the models of the school of future, and the ways of their effective realization in the world practice become an important problem.

In this way, the education staff follows the main statements of the Law of Ukraine “On the Comprehensive Secondary Education”, the National Doctrine of the Education Development, and other regulatory documents.

The necessity in the creation of the model of a modern school as an integral open pedagogical system with the corresponding micro- and macro environment appeared. It would satisfy the requests and the needs of a personality in getting a qualitative education, his/her self-development, and self-realization, the active engagement in the social space, and the creating one’s own future.

The creative searches of the pedagogical staff were promoted by the institution participation in carrying out the experiments of the Laboratory of Rural School of the Institute of Pedagogy of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences. Their topic was The Organizational and Pedagogical Fundamentals of the Models of the Rural Comprehensive Educational Institutions Development; the experiments had been being carried out from 2009 till 2011 (the research supervisor - V. V. Meleshko, a Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, an Associate Professor, a chief of the Laboratory of Rural School) in cooperation with Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Institute of the Post-Qualifying Pedagogical Education.

In correspondence with the goals and the tasks of the program, the means of the experimental work organization at school were developed; the functional obligations were sgared; the changes in the strategic and the tactical planning were made and so on.

On the basis of the conceptual model, which was recommended by the Laboratory of Rural School of the Institute of Pedagogy of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine (its author is V. V. Meleshko), the variative model of the Otyniysk School of the Active Community, which had been being experimentally checked and implemented during 2009-2011, was developed.

The main components of the models are the following: conceptual, managerial, didactic (the education content), upbringing, methodological, and social. The regional aspect is observed in the whole model system.

Mission: To adapt the school youth to the dynamic and fast-changing environment and to form the personalitys understanding of his/her ego in the social, the psychic, and the physical aspects as well as to guarantee his/her pro-active attitude, the society socialization.

The aim: To guarantee the development, the self-development, and the self-education of a personality under the conditions of the formed educative environment on the basis of humanism, democracy, civility, the mutual respect between the nations and the folks on behalf of a human, a family, the socity, the state.

The tasks are the following:

- to provide a qualitative education in correspondence to the request, the needs, and the giftedness of a pupil;

- to guarantee the appropriate conditions for the intellectual, the spiritual, and the physical development of pupils, the provision of the opportunities for the acquirement of the system of knowledge as well as the abilities for the creative and the research work;

- the implementation of the scientific results, the leading experience, the informational and computer technologies in the pedagogical process;

- the realization of the opportunities of the educative environment taking into consideration the regional peculiarities;

- the further implementation of the field-specified education, the guarantee of the pre-professional education of the graduates;

- the effective cooperation with the music, art and handicrafts schools with the further foundation of the educative complex, the interrelation between the institution which work in the spheres of culture, the governmental bodies, and the civil organizations;

- the further cooperation with the school in Kutno, Poland and the volunteer of the Peace Corps from the U.S.A.;

- the provision of the scientific-methodological and psychological accomplishment of the pedagogical process;

- the improvement of the system of the state management of the educational institution.

For the purpose of the successful realization of the principal goals and tasks, there are all necessary conditions and resources in the institution. Otyniysk comprehensive school of the I-III degrees of Koloomya region council is one of the largest rural educative institutions not only in the district but also in Ivano-Frankivsk region. Nowadays, 850 pupils study in 31 grades, and 82 pedagogues work there. The institution possesses a good material and technical as well as the educational and methodological basis: 50 classrooms, 4 workshops (2 of them are for the service work, 1 is for woodworking, and 1c is for metal working, 1 car park, 2 gymnasiums, an assembly room (300 places), the school library, the playground (football, basketball, volleyball playgrounds, 250-metres race tracks, parallel bars, H-bars, ladders, jumping pits). The classrooms and the workshops are equipped very well; it provides children not only to acquire knowledge but also to use it in practice effectively. At school, 16 cabinets were evaluated; there are two new computer classes, the multimedia system, the computers which serve for the satisfaction of the pedagogical staff needs.

During the experimental researches, the content of the main components of the development model The Schools of the Active Community was worked on.

One of the important components is the didactic education content. Contemporary world requires being communicative and mastering the informational technologies as well the knowledge of economy. This is the reason why such courses as Communication, The Fundamentals of Computer Science (in the 2nd grade), and The Fundamentals of Economy (in the 3ird grade) are introduced in the primary school.

We pay special attention to the psychological-pedagogical studying of a personality, his/her skills, abilities, giftedness, the research of the spheres of influence on a child in the academic environment using questionnaires, tests, and so on.

In the basic school, the majority of academic hours which belong to the variative component are spent on teaching the native language as a pre-profile subject as the philological profile has been introduced in the high school.

Such optional courses as The Ukrainian Oral Folk Arts and The Literature of the Ukrainian Diasporas were introduced for pupils. They develop their poetic skills in the literary course Forward Spring. The pupils are the winners of the language and literature competitions. In the 9th grade, the majority of academic hours which belong to the variative component are spent on the further studying of economy. Together with their teacher, the pupils provided their successful representation of their economic project at the all-Ukrainian contest in Kyiv.

Some changes were made in the variative component of the education content at a high school, in particularly, in the profile education. In order to satisfy the requests and the needs of pupils, the following optional courses were introduced: The Fundamentals of Computer Studies, The Practical Course in Orthography, Business Ukrainian, Culture Studies of the English-Speaking Countries, A Person and the Space, and The Preparation for the External Independent Test.

The educative system of the 1st-11th grades of the comprehensive educational institutions of Ukraine was also changed. The following pupil organizations were founded in the institution: Camomile (the 2nd-4th grades), The Ukrainian Blossom (the 5th-8th grades), and The Youth Education (the 9th-11th grades).

The schoolchildren have an opportunity to attend: various optional courses (football, volleyball, track-and-field athletics, and gymnastics), musical and choreographic courses (the primary schoolchildren chorus, secondary schoolchildren chorus, the chorus of boys, 3 companies, 2 dance courses, a ball studio), the Informatics course, the tourism and country studies course, and others.

At the school, the pupils self-administration, the semi-presidential republic, is in action. The cooperation of the leaders of the school organization s with the council of the elders and The Union of the Ukrainian Women is useful.

The active educative environment is formed with the help of the correlation of the institution with the musical, the artistic and work crafts school, the vocational school number 33, the recreation center , the library, the local self-administration bodies, and the parents community.

Taking into consideration the fact that the geopolitical location of the village promotes the cooperation with the representatives of the international community (it is situated near the region and the district centers as well as the highway interchange and the railway), the school administration signed the agreements on the cooperation with three educational institutions of the countries of the Eastern Europe, in particularly, with the community and the schoolchildren youth in Kutno (the Republic of Poland).

In the realization process of the culturological projects, the exchanges between the pupils delegations were present; it enlarged a range of opportunities for the free opinion and experience exchange and enriched the cultural program.

The analysis of the work of The School of the Active Community which was performed in the recent years, in particularly, the analysis of the markers of the academic progress in all subjects and the quality of education underscores that the graduates of the institution require a high level of knowledge, and their need in the self-development and the self-education has been formed.

The formation of the intellectual and the spiritual potential of a graduate of The School of the Active Community is determined by the following criteria: the level of the civil, national and practical, spiritual and moral development of a personality, the level of the academic achievements, the ability to form ones own education direction, the need in keeping fit, the level of responsibility and the environmental consciousness, the respect to the culture of the native land, the readiness for the self-improvement and the interrelation with the environment, the ability of socialization in the society.

The monitoring of the effectiveness of the implementation of the variative model The School of the Active Community demonstrates the positive changes which were present due to the performed experimental work.

1. The implementation of the technology of modeling promoted the optimization of the work of a school as an integral pedagogical system.

2. The active educative environment which was promoted the development and the self-development of a childs personality, the formation of his/her life competences, the ability to project his/her future, the socialization in the society was created.

The graduates of the institution are multiple winners and prizetakers of the II, III, IV stages of the all-Ukrainian subject Olympiads and competitions; in the recent 3 years, about 90 per cent of the graduated continued their education in the higher educational establishments.

3. There is a tendency of the improvement of the level of readiness of a a director and a pedagogue for the innovative research work and the changes which were present in the education system.

4. The activities of a family and the village community became more active in the sphere of teaching and upbringing children and the school youth.

5. The positive image of an institution was spruced up at the level of a district and a region. The experience of the work The School of the Active Community was demonstrated in the materials of the regionary, regional, and all-Ukrainian scientific-practical conferences and seminars (Ivano-Frankivsk, Donetsk, Kyiv, and others) as well as scientific publications.

The next stage of our cooperation is the participation in the experimental researches of the Laboratory of Rural School entitled The Organizational and Pedagogical Conditions of the Educational District Functioning in the Country (2012-2014).

Today, the variative model of the Otyniysk educational district was developed. We are checking it experimentally and implanting it in practice.
