The research and the experimental activity of a polylinguistic grammar school
The first city gymnasium in Cherkasy, the associated school of UNESCO, belongs to the innovative comprehensive educational institutions of Ukraine and is aimed at the improvement of the mechanisms of the provision of the qualitative educational services. Its has the features of an innovative institution:
- the hospitability for new ideas;
- the effective implementation of new educational technologies;
- the successful development of the international cooperation;
- the appropriate support and the social protection either a gymnasium pupil or a teacher.
There is no doubt that such kind of an educational institution can be responsible for the modernization of a gymnasium and the reformation of an educative process as well as to pay attention to the consecutive improvement of the professional competence and the creative potential of a pedagogue, the improvement of the quality of pupils’ education and to take into consideration the social procurement of the society for a competitive personality who possesses the key competences and is able to live, to study, and to work in the globalized multi-lingual community.
The National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences and the Ministry of education and Science of Ukraine determined the main branches of the European integration in the sphere of the Ukrainian secondary education; the following ones were among them:
- upbringing of an active and a tolerant citizen;
- making terms by means of a language;
- education without any frontiers;
- from the schools-partners to partner countries;
- a new European teacher for the new European education.
All these branches can be realized in a polylinguistic gymnasium under certain conditions: strategic, governmental, culturological, scientific-methodical, material-technical, sanitary-hygienic ones. A polylinguistic gymnasium is a new social and pedagogical system which is characterized by the hospitability, dynamics, self-management, determination, and functionality. The gymnasium hospitality is characterized by its international cooperation and the links to the exterior social and cultural environment. Dynamics is confirmed by the positive changes in the personnel, scientific-methodological, financial, material and technical, informational as well as international resources. Self-management is the realization of the level-functioning structure of management of the state and civil type which is aimed at the improvement of the education quality, upbringing and development of pupils. The determination and the functionality of a gymnasium are guaranteed by the concept and the development program of a polylinguistic gymnasium.
Taking into account the level of the polylinguistedness, the first city gymnasium in Cherkasy is the most large-scale one among the comprehensive educational institutions of Ukraine which provides teaching of 12 languages: primary, in-depth, experimental, compulsory, optional, elective, field-specified, and in the language clubs.
The gymnasium pedagogical staff is stable. It includes 71 pedagogue; 50 first category teachers, 6 honored teachers of Ukraine, 6 national winners of the Ukrainian-American programs are among them. It is important that the pedagogical staff of the gymnasium realizes the necessity of the innovative research-experimental activity; it is ready for the creative implementation of the innovations, has a positive attitude to the perspective pedagogical experience; it has ability for a professional reflection and is aimed at the positive work results. The activity of a modern teacher-researcher has a polyfunctional and poliactivity character and is determined by various factors of influence on the gymnasium by the social and cultural environment.
The first city gymnasium in Cherkasy in Cherkasy is famous for the productivity of its work: 46 winners of the IV stage of the all-Ukrainian pupil Olympiads (2010-2013); 78 national winners of the Ukrainian-American program FLEX “Future Leaders” (since 1994); 3 graduates got 200 points in English (the Interior Independent Test) (2010-2012); 28 pupils of the 7th-10th grades were provided the e-learning in Canadian college of English, 53 publications about the gymnasium in foreign periodicals.
